Alex Climent: “Formula Kite is pure adrenaline. It’s an addiction and you’re always looking for more”

"It allows us to fly with no wind at all and to reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour," emphasizes the current leader of the national ranking, Alex Climent, who is preparing thoroughly to be able to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, his dream since he was a child.

Alex Climent Hernández is one of the biggest names in the world of kitesurfing. The Valencian athlete, three time Spanish champion in this new Olympic Sailing discipline that will be premiered at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, will be on the island of Ibiza over the next few days to participate in the fourth stop of the Cutty Sark Circuit ‘Spirit of Adventure’ FKSS 2022, a high-flying competition to be held from this Friday until Sunday in the waters of Cala Martina, in Santa Eulària de Riu, along with the presence of some of the most prominent kitesurfers of the moment, both national and international.

Alex Climent, who arrives at the Ibiza event as reigning national champion and current leader of the classification in the elite category, wanted to share exclusively with the readers of Diario de Ibiza his personal worries, his feelings towards the event and the many emotions has has about arriving to fully enjoy the first visit of his life to the island of Ibiza.

What can we expect from your participation in the Cutty Sark Circuit ‘Spirit of Adventure’ FKSS 2022 that Ibiza is hosting for the first time?

Well, the truth is that I expect a great weekend. It will also be my first time on Ibiza and I am very excited. I’m really keen to get to know the island, to enjoy, to have a good time and to win this race because it would solidify my first position of the national ranking.

You’ve already been crowned Spanish champion three times. And it seems that your fourth national title is on the right track. What are your short, medium and long term goals?

The goal in this event is to win. Both in this event and the personal ‘challenge’ of consolidating one more year at the top of the podium. I’m at my best because, practically, my life today is dedicated one hundred percent to this. It’s a dream I have and I’ve been pursuing for many years, since I was a child.

How long has Alex Climent been kiteboarding?

I’ve been kiteboarding for 16 years, which is a long time. And in Formula Kite I’ve been doing world championships for 12 years. I started in this sport because I was looking to sail in more extreme conditions and to be able to take advantage of any kind of wind. That’s how I started, but then I’ve always competed in everything, like freestyle, although I didn’t feel as comfortable as in Formula Kite. And right away I saw that that was what I liked the most. And since they made it Olympic I’ve been working hard to be ready
