The Head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, had a telephone conversation on Thursday with the president of Ukraine Volodymir Zelenski, in which he has reiterated “Spain’s full support until peace is achieved” and told him that the main effort will be centered around training and sending additional military supplies to the country.

According to Moncloa sources, the conversation has lasted around 20 minutes and it is part of the round of ongoing talks carried out by Zelenski with various international leaders

The President of the Government has had several telephone conversations with Zelenski since the beginning of the Russian invasion and went to Kiev to meet him on April 21st. On this occasion, Sánchez conveyed Spain’s commitment to Ukraine in different areas, mainly in the training of Ukrainian military personnel and sending more military supplies, and according to the same sources, this aid “will persist as long as necessary.”

The first rotation of training to Ukrainian units at the Toledo Training Coordination Center ended in December, and the second rotation will begin in January with the arrival of 192 military personnel.

Likewise, sources from the Executive point out that Spain has committed 2.7 million euros through the World Food Program (WFP) 38 million to alleviate the effects of the war and has granted temporary protection to 161,321 affected people, the fifth highest number of grants in the EU.
