Three pregnant women and at least six minors arrive on boats in the Pitiusas Islands

Since Saturday, Ibiza and Formentera have received 86 migrants in seven boats from Algeria

The unstoppable trickle of immigrants in the Pitiusas, mainly from the coast of Algeria, recorded a dramatic new chapter yesterday with the arrival of five small boats with 65 migrants on board, reportedly including three pregnant women (they are pending health tests at the Hospital Can Misses to confirm their condition) and six minors, two of them children, one aged four and the other aged 16 months.

The three pregnant women and two of the minors disembarked on the coast of es Codolar, in the municipality of Sant Josep, in the middle of the Ses Salines Natural Park, at 3:15am. The Government Delegation on the Balearic Islands only reported the presence of the three pregnant women, who along with the two children were part of the crew of a skiff in which eight other men were travelling.

The three migrants will remain in the Dona Office while they remain in the custody of the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía, reported the Consell de Ibiza.

But yesterday saw the arrival of four more boats, two in Ibiza and another in es Caló de Formentera, where one had already been found on Saturday. Thirteen migrants were also located last night on the beach of s’Estufador in Formentera.

The second boat arrived on Ibiza a quarter of an hour after the first, at 3:30am. The Government Delegation was unable to locate the exact spot where the twelve crew members, all male, disembarked.

And the third was stranded in Platja d’en Bossa after it was abandoned by its 14 occupants.
