The Ibiza MICE Summit is born to benchmark the island for congress tourism

The IMS (Ibiza MICE Summit) will be held on 19th October at the Palacio de Congresos and will be attended by event, congress and corporate travel organisers

“We want to join the word Ibiza to the word MICE”, says Ana Sánchez, manager of the Ibiza Convention Bureau and one of the Ibiza MICE Summit’s leading minds. The question the reader will be asking is: What is this so-called MICE?

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibition/Events. That is, what is known as congress tourism and, by extension, all trips that are not made exclusively for pleasure, but have a business purpose, either for an event, conference, business presentation, or any of its multiple derivatives.

After positioning itself as a sun and beach destination, a nightlife destination and, in recent years, a gastronomic destination, the next challenge is to turn Ibiza into an outstanding MICE destination. This is the aim of the Ibiza MICE Summit, organised by the Ibiza Convention Bureau and the Palacio de Congresos de Ibiza, which was presented yesterday at the Hotel Torre del Mar. The event will be held on Tuesday 19th October at the Palacio de Congresos and has the collaboration of companies from this business sector such as Eventoplus, Punto MICE and Meet-in.

The congress will consist of four talks in which topics such as specialised training in event tourism, the role of technology in the transformation of this type of business and the future of face-to-face events in the post-pandemic scenario will be discussed. However, what is discussed at these forums will be just as interesting as the contacts made with companies to convince them of Ibiza’s potential as a MICE destination.

“We will have European agencies as guests who are potential clients and we will invite them to discover the island”, says Ana Sánchez, “there will also be event and incentive agencies, companies that manage business trips, associations of all kinds that organise congresses”. In short, a congress “very specialised for professionals in the sector”.
