Vaccination of children begins on the 15th with eleven year olds

Once their immunization is approved by the Public Health Commission, the Govern will make the call to parents to take their children to vaccination

The President of the Govern, Francina Armengol, revealed yesterday, after the Public Health Commission of the Ministry of Health approved the vaccination against covid for all children aged between 5 and 11 years, that the process on the Balearic Islands will begin as soon as the first vaccines arrive, around the 15th of December.  The socialist leader did not reveal where they will be located but said that parents or legal guardians will be contacted by telephone to take the children to the vaccination points.

We will begin vaccinating immediately as soon as they arrive, which will be around the 15th,” she said, explaining that the idea is to inoculate 11 year olds first and then move down the age groups.

To do this, she said that the vaccination committee will make a call to parents to take their children to be vaccinated.

Vaccination: “Salvation for our children”

“There is one thing that is evident and that is that those who are vaccinated experience far less symptos when infected and are less contagious. It is an individual and collective obligation of all of us because it is the salvation for our children”.

As the coordinator of the vaccination campaign against covid-19 on the Balearic Islands, Eugènia Carandell, announced on Friday of last week, a total of 24,000 Pfizer vaccines are scheduled to arrive in Mallorca on the 15th for the immunisation of children, and another two batches of 6,000 doses each will be distributed in Menorca and the Pitiusas. Carandell added that the required three weeks will have to pass between doses to complete the immunization.

Despite the announcement, President Armengol stressed that the “priority” at this time is to administer the third dose of the covid vaccine to those over 60 years, thanked those who are currently being vaccinated and encouraged those who have not been vaccinated, to do so as soon as possible.
