Coronavirus in Ibiza: “75% of those admitted to the ICU not vaccinated”

Active infections of Coronavirus increase for the eighth consecutive day on Ibiza and Formentera

“75% of those admitted to intensive care units for coronavirus are not vaccinated,” said the Balearic Minister of Health, Patricia Gómez, who explained that at the moment three out of four are over 60 years old, but that the rest are between 20 and 40 years old and in serious condition. The consellera stated that the risk of a person over 60 ending up in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) “is twenty times higher for those who have not been vaccinated” and is multiplied by a factor of fourteen in the case of those under 60.

There are currently three patients in the ICU on Ibiza who have been admitted for coronavirus, according to the latest data published by the Conselleria. This figure has not changed in recent days, and since the start of the last wave at the beginning of August it has not fallen below two, except for one day following the death of one of those hospitalised. The number of people hospitalised for coronavirus in Ibiza remained unchanged from the previous day at thirteen. At Can Misses Hospital there are eleven, nine on the ward and two in the ICU. There are also two more in the Policlínica, one on the ward and another in its own intensive care unit.

Although the number of people hospitalised for covid remained unchanged, the number of active infections in the Pitiusas increased for the eighth consecutive day. At the moment there are 271 people infected, five more than on Tuesday. This means an increase of 1.9% in 24 hours and 26% in the last seven days. This figure has been reached after a day in which the number of positives cases exceeded the number of discharges given by doctors. The Molecular Biology section of the Microbiology Laboratory of the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera detected fifteen new infections, all of them on Ibiza, five more than the number discharged.
