It’s been more than four months, 11th August, since the Pitiusas recorded such a high number of positive coronavirus cases in a single day, with a total of 78 yesterday, according to the latest data from the Balearic Ministry of Health. The microbiology laboratory of the Hospital Can Misses confirmed 73 infections on Ibiza and five on Formentera. In the case of Formentera it is the highest number of positive covid in one day since 8th August while in Ibiza it coincides with the total of the Pitiusas, on 11th August.
These new coronavirus infections tripled the number of hospital discharges from doctors at the same time, with a total of 26, which puts the active infections on Ibiza and Formentera at 743. That is, in a single day those affected on the Pitiusas have increased by 7.5% and 42% in the last week. At the moment there are 220 cases more than last Thursday, when 523 were recorded.
The increase in positives and active infections does not correspond, for the moment, with an increase in those affected who need hospital care. In fact, yesterday there were 14 hospitalized, one less than on Wednesday, although there is one more patient in a critical condition, according to data from the Ministry and the Health Department of Ibiza and Formentera. It should be noted that exactly a week ago there were no covid patients in the ICU on the Pitiusas, while there are now four.
