At least two young Moroccans who escaped on Friday afternoon from Palma airport, after a passenger faked a diabetic coma, have left the island. Both took a boat to Barcelona. The police issued a warrant for the dozen fugitives. The judge also issued a search and arrest warrant, as the fugitives are fully identified.
The Air Arabia Maroc plane landed at Palma airport at around seven o’clock last Friday evening. The Airbus A320 was flyingย between Casablanca and Istanbul, but a passenger pretended to suffer a diabetic coma and the aircraft commander was forced to change the route and made an emergency landing at Son Sant Joan.
When the supposedly affected passenger was removed and placed in the ambulance with a companion, the plane was evacuated. A young Moroccan confronted a civil guard and the other 21 ran off into night invading the runways of the Palma airport. Given the danger posed by the presence of these individuals, both for landing and take-off manoeuvres, Son Sant Joan was forced to close. Air traffic remained closed for three hours, from eight in the evening until eleven at night.
The agents of the Policรญa Nacional and the Guardia Civil arrested a dozen Moroccan migrants who had escaped from the aircraft that had just landed in Palma. Some of these fugitives were intercepted in Marratxรญ, after their presence raised alarms in the neighbourhood.
At noon on Monday, the dozen Moroccan migrants arrested after the escape from the plane were brought before the courts, and the head of the Court of Instruction number 6 of Palma, who was on duty, ordered all those arrested to be remanded in custody without bail.
Two crimes of sedition by the fugitivies in Son Sant Joan
Specifically, the judge who was on duty charged all the detainees with two different crimes of sedition. One is included in the Penal Code, which refers to the disturbance of public order. The other is covered by Air Navigation Law.
The police have issued a warrant for the dozen fugitives. The judge also issued a warrant for their arrest.
