Solar energy: Sirenis Hotels & Resorts group installs the largest solar park on Ibiza

The solar energy project has been carried out thanks to funding from BBVA.

A solar park of 4,000 square meters of photovoltaic solar panels, the largest on Ibiza, will cover almost 30% of the energy needs of the Sirenis Seaview Country Club and Tui Blue Aura resorts of the Sirenis Hotels & Resorts group in Port des Torrent. This has been communicated by the hotel chain, which “continues its commitment to a sustainable transition”.

The installation of this large solar park has been made possible thanks to financing from BBVA, which will channel 200,000 million euros between 2018 and 2025 in sustainable financing to “progressively align its activity with the Paris Agreement,” explained the bank. In 2021, €86 billion was channeled, they report. From 2030, BBVA will also stop financing coal in developed countries and from 2040 in the rest. The objective is “to be carbon neutral in 2050″, both in direct emissions of the bank, in which they confirm they already have been since 2020; as well as in indirect emissions. BBVA recalls that they have been recognized as the first bank in the world ranking of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

“Our goal is not only to finance the project, but to accompany the customer in all their needs and support them in the transition to a more sustainable world,” said Carlos Rodríguez, regional director of the Eastern territorial management of BBVA’s Corporate and Business Banking.

For Pedro Matutes, general manager of Sirenis Hotels & Resorts, “this project represents a reduction of 666 tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to planting 4,000 trees”. “The intention of Sirenis Hotels & Resorts is to implement additional measures to save electricity consumption by replacing electrical appliances with more energy efficient ones to cover an even greater proportion of the consumption of the facilities in an average season,” added Matutes.

Solar panels will generate 0.8 megawatts

This project will generate 0.8 megawatts, which represents a significant increase in terms of green energy on the island. In total, according to the group, 1,761 panels have been installed on the roofs of the hotels, without occupying new ground.
