Ibiza Administration “will collapse” in five years “if staff loyalty is not achieved”

UGT warns that a salary top-up is "urgently" needed to promote the attractiveness of the jobs in the Pitiusas that are not included in the services provided by the State in Ibiza and Formentera, and warns that the salary increase of 2% falls short when inflation is already 4%

The General Administration of the State in the Pitiusas “will collapse” in a period of “between five and 10 years” if there is no attempt to gain the “loyalty” of civil servants i.e. if nothing is done to stop the organisation from haemorrhaging staff, Miguel Ángel Romero, general secretary of public services of UGT of Balears, warned yesterday, at an event on the consequences of insularity on different public services, organised by this union and held in the Consell’s plenary hall.

They reached two conclusions about this “shortfall and the difficulty in finding personnel” in the Balearic Islands: “it is particularly evident in the smaller islands, especially in Ibiza”, and the main cause “is the price of housing”.

“The aim of these conferences”, according to Romero, “is to bring together the three administrations (regional, municipal and state) to analyse this potentially common problem, and to try to put forward a series of proposals to avoid the collapse that could occur in the Administration in five or ten years”. Avoiding such a collapse requires “planning the replacement of personnel that will be required in the general state administration” in the near future, specifically in “the provision of public services in the areas of health, education, immigration, the Guardia Civil, and Policía Nacional and Local”, among others.
