Company busting prices to obtain the beach plots in Ibiza town

Island Job submits bids well above the rest to corner the beach plots, but an appeal by another bidder suspends the award of several plots.

The company Island Job S.L. could monopolize the management of almost all the sunbeds and parasols that will be available this summer in the municipality of Ibiza after submitting bids well above the starting price requested by the Vila City Council and those submitted by other applicants. The multi-million euro figures submitted by this company have allowed it to beat out its rivals in the technical evaluation to obtain the beach licenses, although the final contract has been suspended until the appeal filed by another applicant is resolved.

Island Job S.L belongs to local businessman Juan José Torres Torres, who already won 14 beach plots on Sant Josep in the controversial auction that was organized in 2016. That awarding process was dominated by the presence of a Canary Islands businessman convicted of drug trafficking, Mahy Marrero, who won another 11 concessions, slaughtering the prices of the other bidders.

This time, Island Job S.L. has offered 2,440,000 euros for a total of eight lots of hammocks and parasols that had a starting fee of 414,703. By way of example, for the largest concession, consisting of 110 sun loungers and 55 parasols on Platja d’en Bossa, the proposal of this company amounts to 420,000 euros, while the second highest score is 291,200.

Almost all hammocks and parasols

With the score of the technical report, Island Job S.L. would obtain a total of 510 hammocks and 255 parasols adding up all the beach plots to which it presented, three of them on Platja d’en Bossa, two on ses Figueretes and three on Talamanca. The company has only ruled out three lots of sports and water activities, a small license on Talamanca of 20 sunbeds and 10 parasols, as well as the license that the City Council proposed on the beach of es Viver. The latter, as occurred in the last award process before the pandemic, in 2018, has been abandoned. It consists of a kiosk, 40 hammocks and 20 parasols.
