Last night the awards ceremony of the second edition of the Audiovisual Competition for the Conservation of the Balearic Sea, MARE, which was held in the Albert Camus hall, in Sant Lluรญs (Menorca). The night had a markedly Pitiusan flavour because some of the main prizes went to Ibizan photographers. Thus, Vicent Planells Ramon won the prize in the category ‘Animalia’ in the Adult Experts profile, with the photo ‘Invisibles en el entorno’. In the children’s category, the award went to Adriร and Lluna Mas Escandell, with two other images. The photographers Joan Costa, รscar Gonzรกlez and Cristina Amanda Tur, among others, were also recognised.
In the photography awards, 1,000 images were received from 115 participants (98 adults and 17 young people) distributed among the four participation profiles: children, young people, adult amateurs and adult experts. A total of 10,000 euros was distributed across 22 awards. The best projects presented will be included in the travelling exhibition that will tour the Balearic Islands in 2022.
The Balearic Sea thanks to a committed contest
The winning photographs show the diversity of habitats, species and underwater and coastal landscapes present in the Balearic Sea, such as a sea needle among the posidonia, little known invertebrates such as bryozoans and polychaetes or the Cystoseira – the algae symbol of clean waters -. “We also find more artistic photographs with various portraits that allow us to connect with the sea from its beauty, vulnerability and call to action,” said the jury.
The winning photographs are as follows. In the profile of adult expert participation: ‘Invisibles en el entorno’ by Vicente Planells Ramon, (MARE Animalia); ‘Algues que viuen entre dos mons’ by Miquel Gomila (MARE Plantae); ‘Dia de platja’, by Jaume Cabrer (MARE Magna); ‘Tocant la mar’ d’Arnau Cloquells Sintes (MARE Nostrum); ‘Emisario roto’ by Joan Costa Garcรญa (MARE Denuncia); ‘Dragonera Hope Spot’ by Fernando Darder (M.H.
