Ibiza schoolchildren discover the art of Niesche in La Nave

A new edition of the workshop-visits organised by the La Nave Salinas Foundation for pupils between the third and sixth years of primary school gets underway.

The La Nave Salinas Foundation has launched its traditional educational programme aimed at schoolchildren between the third and sixth years of primary school. In this new edition of L’Escola a La Nave, the students are offered a visit to the Ses Salines exhibition space to learn about the work of Jonny Niesche (Sydney, 1972) and reflect on his exhibition ‘_ness’.

what is abstraction, how does art make us feel, how can we give free rein to our emotions through artistic expression? These are some of the questions posed to the children in these workshop visits, focused on the work of the Australian artist.

L’Escola a La Nave consists of theory and practice. In the first part, which consists of a reflection on art and on Niesche, questions such as what is the artist’s work or how his works and the exhibition have been created are addressed.

In the practical part, students can individually decide the title of the exhibition according to the sensations it has awakened in them and then draw it on paper. In this way they put into practice what they have previously learned about abstraction.

The visitsthe visits, which have a limit of 25 students per group, will take place throughout the month of October from Monday to Friday, with two time slots each day: from 10 am to 11:30 am and from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

The promoters of the initiative estimate that during this time more than 500 students will visit La Nave. Visiting hours will be modified during this month: the hall will be open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The space will also be open on October 12.

An immersive experience

Fan of Mark Rothko, Debbie Harry and the glam iconography of the seventies, Jonny Niesche shows in La Nave three monumental works: two of them, vertical format and ten meters high; the other, horizontal format and 20 meters wide. They are five times larger than the artist’s usual size and were designed specifically for this exhibition space created in 2015 by the gallery owner Lio Malca in an old salt warehouse in ses Salines.

In ‘_ness’ Niesche creates a immersive experience the shiny black tone that covers the entire floor reflects both the color of the works and the movement of the visitor, so that it seems as if the works are following him or her. The glossy black tone that covers the entire floor reflects both the color of the works and the movement of the visitor in such a way that it seems as if the works are following him or her. The auditory experience is completed with sounds from the center of the Perseus galaxy captured by NASA, creating an abstract environment that even facilitates meditation.

Prior to presenting his work at La Nave Salinas Foundation, Niesche has exhibited his creations in galleries in London, New York, Vienna and Los Angeles, as well as in various institutions around the world.
