The Arxiu Històric d’Eivissa i Formentera (Aheif), which is based in Can Botino, in Dalt Vila, continues to enrich its heritage with new donations and acquisitions, which were presented yesterday by its director, Fanny Tur, and the Councillor for Culture of the City Council of Ibiza, Pep Tur. Among the precious materials that have been added to its collection on this occasion, there is a fairly large batch of donations made up mainly of books and documents from two very important collections. These are “2,000 volumes from the library of the humanist José Cerdà Gimeno, who has already donated part of his private archive, and books and religious publications donated by Isidor Marí from the archive of Isidor Macabich”, as Pep Tur explained. He also pointed out that among the new acquisitions are two small oil paintings by Antoni Marí Ribas Portmany, a donation by Cristina Tur of the book ‘Miliziani a Ibiza’, by Rafael Alberti, dedicated to Juanito del Restaurante Formentera, and a series of coins by Antoni Serra, some of them from the time of Alfonso XII.

Fanny Tur pointed out that, in addition to the coins, Antoni Serra had let them scan “a series of personal documents that are very interesting because, for example, there are vaccination certificates from the 1930s…”. “And speaking of epidemics, a interesting booklet by a Menorcan doctor about the cholera epidemic that affected Palma and Maó in 1865, from which, fortunately, Ibiza was spared, like many others”, added Tur.
In addition to the 2,000 books, the José Cerdà Gimeno library is made up of DVDs, CDs and periodicals on a wide range of subjects, including history, biographies, legal matters, politics, essays, ethics, religion, spirituality, mythology and literature. People interested in this material will have the option of consulting or borrowing it.
The Aheif explained that the books are being registered and added to the Can Botino library catalogue so that users can consult them online in the Balearic Islands Bibliographic Catalogue.
