‘Tierra’ (Earth)ย is the pseudonym used by Ana Blanco Garcรญa (Madrid, 1979) and also the name she has chosen for her first exhibition in Ibiza, where she has lived for a year and a half. The exhibition that opens today at 7.30 pm at the Hotel Ocean Drive, next to the Botafoc Ibiza marina, focuses, above all, on her portrait skills. As she herself explains, ‘Tierra’ is her letter of introduction on the island and for this reason she has chosen twenty paintings for the occasion that are a sample of her artistic journey from 2014 to 2021. The opportunity to exhibit her work, she explains, was offered by Dieter Sroka.

The viewer will recognize the vast majority of the faces that Blanco has painted with expressive strokes. They are all people she admires. Distributed around the entrance of the hotel and the entrance and inside of the dining room there are portraits of artists, such as Picasso and Francis Bacon; of writers, such as Gabriel Garcรญa Mรกrquez; and of filmmakers, such as John Ford. A disciple of the painter Pablo Schugurensky, Blanco also wanted to pay tribute to him by including in ‘Tierra’, a portrait she made of him. There is also space for anonymous faces and bodies. Although she has explored other fields, Blanco always returns to portraiture. “I spent eight years traveling the world and and portraiture appeared as a way to connect with people with whom I shared neither language, culture nor worldview,” he explains. Tierra’ also brings together some landscapes and nudes from her ‘Serie negra’.
