The Fashion Association of Ibiza and Formentera (AMIF), in collaboration with the Santa Eulària Town Hall, began its painting and fine arts courses and introductory courses in pattern making and sewing this month, with 60 people attending the classes. The courses in Ibiza will last for seven months, until May 2022, and a teaching load of four hours a week per activity. The classes are aimed at adults aged 16 and over. “There is a very wide age range and this allows us to unite different generations in the same space,” says the AMIF representative, which has made a goal of “promoting spaces for socializing with motivational, creative and artistic purpose where you can express yourself and stimulate communication”.
Faced with the gradual loss of a traditional trade such as pattern making and sewing, AMIF proposes practical courses that are very useful for social and labour purposes and the promotion of social contact, providing all those attending with the basic tools for making and repairing garments.
The painting and fine arts classes focus on working with art as a tool that develops the imagination and cognitive abilities through different sensory experiences.
“It is fortunate to have a space like the one provided by the Santa Eulària Town Council for these activities and that all those attending can find a place where they can disconnect from their worries and connect with others. We have to persue these kinds of activities because they are the best therapy against, loneliness and post-pandemic depression,” says the Fashion Association.
