Urgent solutions demanded for Ibiza’s sewage treatment plant

The Alianza por el Agua criticizes that "bureaucracy or lack of interest" is delaying the necessary actions for this Wastewater Treatment Plant on Ibiza

The Alliance for the Water of Ibiza and Formentera yesterday demanded urgent measures to solve the deficiencies in the sanitation produced by the Vila Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR), as announced in a press release.

As reported by this newspaper, the latest annual report of the Balearic Water Agency (Abaqua), belonging to the Balearic Govern, found that 51.54% of the water from this treatment plant does not meet the legal parameters for wastewater treatment.

“Unfortunately, this problem has been going on for at least 25 years”, claimed the spokesman of this platform, Rafa Tur. The Alliance for water recalled that the European Commission will process a fine against the Government of Spain for the poor treatment of this sanitation plant.

“The formulas to solve this problem are on the table and are known to all administrations”

He also stressed that “the formulas to solve this problem are on the table and are known to all administrations”. In spite of this, “interest or bureaucracy have prevented the pertinent actions from being carried out”, Tur lamented in the statement.

As it has claimed on other occasions, the Alianza por el Agua insists on demanding “the execution of these actions in an urgent manner”.
