Zinètic, Ibizas window into alternative cinema

The 7th Zinétic, hosted by the Cine Regio, in Sant Antoni, opens this Thursday with 'Pacifiction', by Albert Serra, and closes on March 23rd, 2023 with 'Triangle of Sadness', by Ruben Östlund, Palme d'Or for best film this year.

Faithful to its commitment to the most alternative cinema, Zinètic returns this week to the Cine Regio, in Sant Antoni, with nine risky and “brave” titles that have managed to attract the attention of juries and audiences at national and international festivals.

The cycle promoted by Juanjo Ribas and Josep Sendra will open and close with two feature films that have competed this year at the Cannes Film Festival, ‘Pacifiction’, by Albert Serra, which was the only film directed by a Spaniard in the Official Competition Section, and ‘Triangle of Sadness’, by Ruben Östlund, which won the Palme d’Or for best film. The first will open Zinètic this Thursday, November 10th, at 8:30pm. ‘Pacifiction’ is a co-production between France, Spain, Germany and Portugal that the organizers define as “an atmospheric parable about power and its dynamics” that navigates between “political drama, thriller and inner journey”. Visually stunning, bizarre and with 165 minutes of footage, the new work of the Catalan Albert Serra, they warn, can become “difficult for the general public”.

The “funny satire about influencers and class struggle” ‘Triangle of Sadness’ will close this edition on March 23, 2023. With this film, director Ruben Östlund highlights “the miseries of savage capitalism” with a stark look.

Zinètic – Award winning titles

The Zinètic program includes other award-winning titles such as ‘Pig’, by Michael Sarnoski, an American drama that revolves around the theft of a truffle pig and stars a brilliant Nicholas Cage. The film, scheduled for November 24th, won the award for ‘Best New Screenplay’ at the Independent Spirit Awards and Sarnoski, ‘Best New Director’ at the National Board of Review.

In this cycle supported by the City Council of Sant Antoni and Cine Regio there is also room for animation with the titles ‘Unicorn Wars’, by Alberto Vázquez, and ‘Inu-Oh’, by Masaaki Yuasa. Completing the program are ‘Petite Maman’, by Céline Sciamma; ‘Vortex’, by Gaspar Noé; ‘El agua’, by Elena López; and ‘Desision to Leave’, by Park Chan-wook.

The films will be screened in original version with subtitles on Thursdays in the last session of the Regio, which may vary between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Admission costs 6 euros. The final schedule of each session will be announced on Zinètic networks and on the Diario de Ibiza billboard.
