The transfer of the yacht ‘Aria SF’ from Formentera to the vicinity of the port of Vila with still in flames, caused concern among professional fishermen, who earlier this week found traces of fuel in the sea that they attribute to leaks from this yacht.
Effects seen in the port of Vila
“There have been diesel spills,” lamented the president of the Fishermen’s Guild of Eivissa, Toni Tur “Blai” yesterday. “Earlier this week, entering the port of Vila there was a terrible stench of diesel,” he recalled. Blai confessed that the fishermen’s collective has followed this event with concern, especially because of the risks of contamination produced by the fire and those that may be generated after the sinking. “It doesn’t help the seabed or biodiversity, because just as diesel oil leaks, so does oil or batteries,” he said.
The president of the Cofradía also showed his doubts about the operation that pulled the ‘Aria SF’ out of Cala Saona. “I followed the route and was heading towards Palma, but they turned around to leave it in Vila. If it has sunk, it is because they wanted it to,” he said.
