Mother’s attempt to poison her own children with rat poison

The woman arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning for trying to murder her children, aged 4 and 14, is said to have poisoned their food with rat poison, according to initial investigations.

As reported Tuesday by the Balearic Islands Superior Headquarters, after accessing the home, they found numerous drugs, many of them benzodiazepines, as well as a packet of rat poison inside of which more than half was missing.

The agents also found out that the woman had given sedatives to her two children and that he had subsequently made food for all three.

Based on the investigation, everything would point to the fact that she had allegedly poured animal poison into the food. Subsequently the woman, who had also ingested pills, drank salfumán, alerting her ex-partner and father of one of the minors, who at that time was sleeping in another bedroom.

The agents also intercepted the food that the mother had prepared, which has been sent for study, being awaiting the result of the relevant analysis.

The facts occurred last Sunday at 1 am, when a man alerted the emergency services indicating that he was sleeping in one of the rooms of the house where they live, in different bedrooms, with a woman who had been his partner, her daughter and a son in common.

According to the officers’ account, at one point the woman told the man that she had been poisoned and that she had poisoned her children, so he quickly went to the bedroom to attend to the children and the woman.

To the scene came several patrols of Public Safety and ambulances, which transferred the woman and the two children to a hospital in Palma.

She had already tried to suffocate her daughter

The agents learned that the mother had allegedly tried to suffocate her 14-year-old daughter on two occasions, without success, due to the minor’s opposition.

Based on the facts investigated, the agents of the Homicide Group of the National Police arrested the mother as the alleged perpetrator of two crimes of attempted murder.

The woman is hospitalized in the detainee module of the hospital under police custody, while the minors remain hospitalized although there is no fear for their lives.
