The Formentera Jazz Festival (FJF) will once again fill some of the island’s most representative spots overlooking the sea with music as it opens and closes in ses Illetes and es Pujols respectively. This annual event will be held for the ninth time from the 1st to the 4th of June and promises to once again be a must-see spectacle for lovers of jazz and its fusion with other genres who are visiting the island during these days.
The central stage is set up in the plaza de la Constitucióof Sant Francesc Xavier, which will host on June 2 and 3the main performances. The program and the direction of the FJF, is in charge of Maxwell Moya.
On the eve of its first decade celebrating music, culture and their connection to nature, the festival continues its commitment to showcasing the intersection of jazz in different musical genresthe program encourages diversity in its programming between international and national talent, as well as outstanding local figures who reside in the Balearic Islands.
Over the course of four days, the festival will travel to different enclaves, starting with its inaugural session with Ana Rossi Trioin es Molí de Sal, a place with history that is incorporated for the first year to the FJF circuit. The Constitució Square
The central days of the festival are Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June, in the Plaça de la Constitució, whose stage will host outdoor concerts by Duquende, Alexandre Delange, Monkey Doo, Fosc, Ay Trick and Sonido Tupinamba.
On Sunday, June 4, the festival will close with the traditional jam session at Chezz Gerdi, in es Pujols. A session to which all the participating and local musicians are invited and which will be conducted by the artist Mel Semé.
As usual, on Sunday June 4 at 5 pm there will be a plastic waste collection in collaboration with Plastic Free on the beach of es Pujols. In this way the FJF wants to commit to the conservation of the environment “as a symbol of sustainability that is sought from the organization”.
Maxwell Moya did not hide yesterday, in the official presentation of the program, “the excitement for reaching already nine years, organizing this festival.” He recalled that the program is based on jazz “but is open to the diversity of genres”.
In addition to the national and international musicians appearing on the program Moya highlighted the presence “of Balearic talent”, as is the case of Alexander Delange, keyboardist based in Formentera, who accompanied him in the presentation.
The organizer highlighted the presence of various musical genres “such as jazz-flamenco, bossa, soul, funk and also in this edition we recover djs”.
Alexandre Delange who is a regular in the summers of jazz in the square, in addition to collaborating with local musicians, was “very excited to play for the first time in this jazz festival.” He stressed that “I come to the island as a baby, then part of my musical influence and what led me to make music professionally has been Formentera, since childhood I came to the square to listen to jazz and it was something that stayed with me”. Over the years he will present his first solo album at this festival. It is an instrumental and conceptual work “that is a reflection on society,” he says.
