Trees fallen, awnings blown down, business signs down and uncontrolled fires. The storm Aline has caused numerous damages in its passage through the Pitiusas.
In Ibiza, a dozen firefighters from the Parque Insular have worked non-stop throughout the night. At 1 a.m. they received a warning alerting them of a fire on the EI-341 road, in the area of Benirrรกsin Sant Joan. Four firefighters and a fire truck were deployed there to control the flames and extinguish the fire, started by a uncontrolled pruning burning.
This was the second warning of the day for this reason. During the afternoon the firefighters of Ibiza went to the Vรฉnda des Canal, in Santa Eulร ria to put out another fire which affected 600 meters of stubble and debris.
In addition to the fire, the firefighters of the island park came to remove a awning that was blown up in Santa Gertrudis because of the strong wind and a sign of a store which had become loose and was in danger of falling onto the track. They also removed a tree that had fallen on several cars in Cala de Bou.
This Friday morning they have come to the withdrawal of a tree branch that had fallen and was traversed on the road to Cala Tarida obstructing traffic in the area.The Local Police also acted in the different municipalities to resolve some incidents, many in collaboration with the firefighters. In Santa Eulร ria, the most prominent incident was the fall of a tree at midnight on the road connecting Santa Eulร ria with Eivissa at the height of Can Nadal. The tree fell blocking the road and a vehicle that could not avoid it suffered some damage. The Local Police regulated the traffic until the arrival of the Guardia Civil and the Consell Insular de Ibiza sent personnel to clear the road. The other incidents due to vegetation preventing normal passage occurred on roads such as Camรญ de l’Horta, Sant Carles road or Margarita Ankermann.
The strong wind also caused last night the closure of the port of La Savina in Formentera . In addition, due to the storm in s’Estany several boats were released from the ecological moorings installed this year and went against the shore.
Firefighters from Formentera were sent to the place and they removed some of the boats from the water and worked to minimize damage in the area. The access gangway to the boats was flooded and the area was cordoned off for safety.
The ports of Ibiza and Formentera reopened to maritime traffic at 20.00 hours after being closed for four hours due to the storm.
Ibiza continues this Friday in yellow warning for strong winds and orange for coastal phenomena.
The 112 Emergency Service in the Balearic Islands has managed, until 11.30 a.m. this Friday, a total of 107 incidents related to the winds and the storm associated with squall ‘Aline’.
Most of the incidents have been due to falling trees (45) and risk of landslides (31). Most of the incidents correspond to Mallorca, with a total of 69. Another 23 incidents have occurred in Ibiza and four in Formentera. For its part, in Menorca 11 incidents have been managed by the storm.
