Uber Yacht arrives in Ibiza to enter nautical charter business

Uber, the ground transportation company, already has a nautical service in Greece. Now it is expanding in Ibiza

Uber Technologies announced on Monday that will launch a yacht service in Ibiza and will introduce different water transport offers in other European cities in an effort to address the strong demand derived from tourism on the continent.

According to The Business Times with information from Reuters, the service, called ‘Uber Yacht’ will be available for pre-booking in Ibiza from July 26th through the month of August.

For its part, the newspaper Cinco Días assures that “users of the platform will be able to rent a yacht in Ibiza, between August 3 and 20, with a total price of 1,600 euros per day. Up to eight passengers will be able to take an eight-hour trip aboard the ‘Sunseeker’, which includes a personal skipper, local artisanal snacks and a complimentary bottle of champagne.”

Starting in July, Uber will also launch a “limousine boat” service in Venice, Italy, the ridesharing platform reported. The service will allow customers to travel around the Venice lagoon.

More competition for local charter companies

According to Uber, summer 2023 data shows that demand for Uber’s mobility services from international customers will increased by approximately 55 percent last year in places like Greece and Spain.

‘Uber Boat’ in Greece will expand from Mykonos, where it launched last year, to Athens, Corfu and Santorini and will allow visitors to travel to beach clubs and reach remote locations, the company said. Uber Boat is also operating in London, among other European cities.

In May, Uber had also unveiled a partnership to offer cruises on the Seine River in a bid to meet the explosive demand stemming from the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
