During the past year, the radars of the Directorate General for Traffic detected more than 87,000 speeding offences on the Balearic road network. The difference with respect to other years is that traditionally, Mallorca registers the most fines however in 2022 has presented very low figures as their radars have undergone revisions or registered some breakdowns, resulting in Ibiza leading the penalties for drivers who like to push the speed limit.
A fact to highlight: the Pitiusan radar located on the Sant Antoni highway has generated more sanctions over those twelve months than the sum of all the other fixed radars installed in the archipelago.
The data provided by the Provincial Traffic Headquarters indicate that during the last year, fixed radars led to 66,742 fines for excessive speed, to which 20,644 more from mobile controls must be added. While the first of these figures is definitive, the data from mobile controls will increase as the processing can take until May to be completed.
Ibiza’s radars lead the figures
Mallorca’s figures for the past year do not even come close to those of Ibiza, which holds a very clear leadership, reaching 47,376 infractions registered by its fixed radars.
It is the control located at kilometer 9.6 of the Sant Antoni highway (EI600) that marks a clear difference, singularly exceeding all the fines imposed by this same method in Mallorca. At this point 35,007 fines have been registered, a volume that no other Balearic radar comes close to.
