Tropical nights in December on Ibiza. Where is the highest temperature on the island?

Low humidity and high temperatures, unusual for this time of the year on Ibiza and Formentera

At the halfway point of December and with the arrival of a rugged up Santa Claus just around the corner, the thermometer seems to have gone crazy and early this morning, as well as yesterday, we have experienced unusually high temperatures for this time of the year

On Ibiza, so used to the humidity that first thing in the morning the vehicles parked in the street are as wet as if it had rained, were dry this morning at dawn. But it was also very hot

According to data from the State Meteorological Agency early this morning, Wednesday, December 14th, the city of Ibiza was the municipality in which the highest maximums were recorded. At 5am the thermometer marked 21.2 degrees; the minimum was also unusual: 18.3

On Formentera the situation was very similar: 20.2 maximum and 18 minimum

In Sant Joan, Santa Eulària and Sant Antoni more of the same: 19.6 degrees at 5am and 16.9 degree minimum.

In spite of the fact that the peninsula is immersed in a barrage of rain for several days with the storm Ephraim, here we have values typical of the end of summer

These temperatures are not normal

These temperatures are not normal, warns Aemet Balears. It is, a front with an “abnormally high” temperature for this time of year, at the gates of winter. As they indicated, episodes like the one that occurred are unusual, but increasingly frequent due to climate change caused by human action.

The forecast for this week is that temperatures will only begin to drop from the final stretch of Thursday and that this trend will continue through the day on Friday, again according to the Aemet. In other words, another unusually warm night is expected for today. If it were not for the fact that temperatures did not reach 20ºC until 11pm, one could speak with all certainty of what meteorologists define as a tropical night.
