Squatter arrested for changing the lock of an apartment in Ibiza and assaulting a police officer

Neighbours alerted the National Police that the man had gained access to the house

The National Police in Ibiza arrested last Tuesday a 36 year old man of Spanish origin who had squatted a house in the centre of Vila.

Officers went to a building in the center of Ibiza after receiving a call from 091, at about 16.45 hoursthe neighbors reported that a person had gained access to one of the houses by picking the lock.

Apparently, the individual had arrived at replace the front door cylinder for a new one, which indicated that it could be a squat, according to the security force in a press release.

Waiting in a “suspicious” attitude

When it arrived at the scene, the patrol picked up the testimony of neighbors, who claimed that the man had been waiting in front of the building in “waiting and suspicious attitude”.

The police officers subsequently interviewed the alleged perpetrator of the crime, who was outside the building. The man ended up confessing to squatting the property and defying the agents to declare that as soon as they left the place he would continue with his purpose of occupation, as his sister was already inside. All this, in an attitude of “defiant and cocky”describes the note.

After the officers verified that he had changed the lock on the apartment, the man became “very aggressive” and even tried to assault one of the police officers.

Finally it was the squatter’s sister who urged the man to leave the apartment in order to avoid further altercations and the officers arrested the man as alleged perpetrator of resistance and disobedience, usurpation of real estate and damages for the damage to the door.

The detainee was taken to the police station and was subsequently handed over to the Duty Examining Magistrate’s Court.
