Squall ‘Karlotta’ forces cancellation of several maritime routes in Ibiza

The State Meteorological Agency activates the yellow alert for strong gusts of wind and coastal phenomena

The shipping company Baleària has cancelled several maritime connections for this Friday due to the inclement weather caused by the arrival of the squall ‘Karlotta’. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the yellow alert for strong gusts of wind and coastal phenomena.

The cancelled routes affecting the Pitiusas are the 11:00 a.m. route from Ibiza to Denia; the 17:00 p.m. route from Denia to Ibiza; and the 19:00 p.m. route from Ibiza to Palma.

Gusts of 70 kilometers per hour

Associated fronts to the ‘Karlotta’ squall have already arrived to the Peninsula and will spread in the form of wind and rough seas over the Balearic Islands this Friday, according to the Aemet. It is expected southwest wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

The alert for rough seas will remain active from 6 am on Friday until 19 hours on Saturday, with wind from the southwest and intervals of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour (force 7) and waves up to three meters, with special incidence on coasts and promenades facing southwest, says the Aemet. The episode of intense wind with maritime storm will probably last until Saturday.
