The students of Ibiza and Formentera have started the 2022-2023 school yearย on Monday without covid measures: without restrictions and without masks. The president of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, who visited on Monday, accompanied by the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Martรญ March, the CEIP Santa Catalina in Palma, stressed that this academic year is full of novelties: “it is a course in which we have more teachers than ever,” a fact that means, according to Francina Armengol “that we have overcome some stages that we lived not so long ago of dismissing teachers and not believing in the education system.”
In addition, it is the first year in which the education from 2 to 3 years will be free and in which the curricula of the LOMLOE are applied. This, together with the fact of being the academic year with the most teachers in history, for Francina Armengol shows the progressive improvement that education in the Balearic Islands has experienced in recent years, both in terms of economic resources and in terms of the stability of the staff.
The president has also claimed the commitment of the Govern to advance equal opportunities, given that there has been increased schooling aid for vulnerable students from 0-1 and 1-2, increased funds allocated to canteen aid and financing of textbooks and increased resources allocated aid to before and after school care.
Uncertainty heading to school for many families
“We are aware of the uncertainty with which many families live due to the war and the inflation situation“, said the president of the Govern, “and that is why we have extended assistance, because we know that they need us to be at their side in the face of adversity, helping the middle and working class”.
