The mayor of Sant Josep, Angel Luis Guerrero, plans to “immediately” request the warrant from the judge to enter the homes of block A of the Don Pepe apartments to execute the forced eviction of the owners, after the conclusion of the proceedings to demolish the building by the Consistory. This was announced today in the municipal plenary, after the spokesperson for Ciudadanos, Dani Becerra, enquired about the notifications the police gave the occupants on Thursday, asking them if they were going to voluntarily leave their homes.
Guerrero has indicated that, after the end of the period of appeals to the file to demolish the building, “without having received any”, this matter is closed and the City Council will ask for the court order tomorrow “or at the latest on Monday” that allows the process of evictions to commence. “That is why the Policía Local were sent to notify the residents and invite them to leave [their homes] voluntarily “.
The building’s community of owners has a month to file an appeal for reconsideration against the decision or two months to appeal through the a dispute tribunal. However, Guerrero has specified that these deadlines do not limit the City Council in demanding the order to enter the homes and noted that the last two court orders of the judge endorse the municipal proceedure throughout the process to try to evict the three zones of block A of Don Pepe that are still inhabited. The other two were evacuated, forcibly, in June last year, after the detachment of part of the roof of a room.
“What the technical reports tell us is that there is a risk to the safety of the people and, every second they spend there, they are in danger. I understand that those affected do not want to see it that way, but we are acting to preserve that security,” said the mayor.
