The Department for Combating Intrusion has decided to impose five sanctions of 20,000 euros and one of 16,000 euros (six sanctioning proceedings in total), for the commercialisation of illegal tourist homes in the towns of Ibiza and Sant Josep, according to a press release from the Consell de Ibiza.
“These six sanctions, totaling more than 115,000 euros, have been processed after the tourist inspection service of the Consell reviewed these homes, and found violations in tourism for advertising, contracting and marketing of housing without having submitted the corresponding responsible declaration of initiation of tourist activity or prior communication, with a penalty of 20,000 euros adjusted to the previous regulations,” the statement details.
The Consell also states that the six dwellings are not susceptible to tourist commercialization on the island. The advertising of all of them was carried out without having presented a Responsible declaration of the Start of the Tourist Activity, and without being registered in the Insular Register of Tourist Companies, Activities and Establishments. “The properties were advertised on two platforms and on social networks with availability calendar, check-in and check-out indications, reservation cancellations, and other services,” the communiqué points out.
“In the case of one of the homes, located in the Las Boas building on Paseo Juan Carlos I in Ibiza, the owner was the rental marketer himself who advertised it through social networks and obstructed the work of the inspectors of the Consell de Ibiza, for which he has also been sanctioned,” the Consell states in the note. Another of these sanctions, according to the note, is also for the owner, but in this case because he did not act against his tenant who was the marketer, despite having been warned by the inspection services of the Consell de Ibiza.
