Salvamento Marítimo helicopter rescues fisherman fallen at sea near Ibiza

Man clings to rock awaiting helicopter rescue off Ibiza coast

Last night Salvamento Marítimo rescued a man in his 40s who fell into the sea while fishing with a friend in Ses Eres Roges, a rocky area of es Figueral belonging to the municipality of Santa Eulària.

The Ibiza Island Fire Station received a warning at 20.40 hours from 112 alerting that a fisherman had fallen into the sea and had taken refuge on a rock.

A fireman and three firefighters in a rural fire truck, as well as an ambulance and a Maritime Rescue helicopter, who finally rescued the victim, were sent to the scene.

A friend alerted 112 and reported that the victim had fallen into the sea from a breakwater at a height of one or two meters.

The sea was breaking hard

The man clung to a rock on an islet and did not dare to swim, as the sea was in very bad condition and was breaking very strong, as explained by the Firefighters of Ibiza, who did not finally intervene, since they did not carry aquatic material to carry out the rescue.

A Salvamento Marítimo helicopter rescued the fisherman and transferred him to the beach of es Figueral, where an ambulance was waiting for him.

The victim suffered no injuries, but did suffer hypothermia due to the time he had been in the water.
