Roma Calderón, author of the Pride Ibiza anthem: “I hope to open consciences and generate smiles and love”

Multifaceted and multi-award-winning artist Roma Calderón is this year’s muse of Ibiza Pride, for which she has even written an anthem that has already been played and danced to in Sant Antoni and Sant Josep. She says she was “crazy happy” when they offered her the chance to be the image of this year’s Ibiza Pride. I was happy, not only because of Pride, as you know I have been committed for years and have been contributing my artistic work to the collective’s events, but “hello how are you, Ibiza” (laughs). But at the same time I feel the responsibility of being the representative of the collective, because we can’t forget that there is still a lot of work to be done for rights, equality, visibility and normalisation; this had to be more than done”, she points out.

Rome has already acted as master of ceremonies at the Diversity Celebration Galaat the S’Arenal Beach in Sant Antoni, and at the young&Proud festival in Caló de s’Oli. In both events Roma infected the audience with the energy of the anthem he has composed for this edition of Ibiza Pride.

“What I intended was to make an anthem that anyone who listened to it would be empowered, feel the pride of being the person they have become, and want to show it to the world. I wanted to make a track for people to dance to, smiling, with glitter in their eyes, and feeling their heart with a very clear message about the courage to show the world who you are. When I sing ‘Glitter in the Soul’ I imagine souls laughing, celebrating, giving off sparkles… wouldn’t it be wonderful to always exist like this?“, he emphasizes.

“In my 30 years of profession in a direct or indirect way I have always been working for the rights of the collective; apart from collaborating in numerous prides from my own artistic work there is always the discourse of normality, acceptance of diversity,” he assures.

“I hope with my contribution to open consciences, hearts and generate many smiles and love, especially a lot of love,” concludes Roma before assuring: “I bring a giant suitcase full of ‘brilli brilli’ that I don’t even know how it has passed through the scanners, it should have exploded from the amount of sequins I carry” (laughs).
