Road works on Ibiza: The refurbishment of the main avenue of Platja d’en Bossa begins

The road work, which will begin on Monday, will require the removal of parking spaces on the street and changes in traffic flow.

The transformative road works of the main avenue of Platja d’en Bossa will began on Sunday, states the City Council of Sant Josep through a note, which specifies that the work of beautification and renovation of supply networks in the first section of calle Murtra, belonging to Sant Josep, and the last section of avenida de Pere Matutes Noguera, located in the municipality of Ibiza, will force the temporary removal of parking spaces.

The road works are expected to last until the end of the first quarter of next year or the beginning of the second, and will involve changes in the circulation of traffic while the road works last.

Thus, from this Monday the road will travel only in the direction of es Viver. Specifically, says the Consistory, the avenue will be one-way only from the round-about of calle Begonies to the intersection with calle Fray Luis de Leon de Ibiza. To access the part of Platja d’en Bossa located in the municipality of Sant Josep from the premises of the Policía Local of the municipality, it is recommended to do so it by calle Els Polls or by calle Gamba Roja, the closest to the end of the beach. “Only the residents of calle Ruda will be allowed access by car during the works,” says the City Council.

The road works project

This investment, which receives funding from the Govern through the extraordinary funds activated by the Ministry of Industry following the bankruptcy of the tour operator Thomas Cook, details the City Council, will unify the street furniture and modernize the infrastructure of calle Murtra, which becomes avenida Pere Matutes as it enters the municipality of Ibiza.

The project will aesthetically unify the urban furniture of this street while improving the service networks, the most expensive part of this investment, details the note. It will be undertaken in a space of 8,500 square meters of a 450-meter stretch of street that goes from the Hotel Algarb, on avenida Pere Matutes de Vila, where a new round-about is planned to provide greater traffic safety, to the round-about at the end of calle Murtra.

According to the Consistory, it was decided to postpone the start of the road work until the end of the tourist season in accordance with the neighbors and to introduce some of the changes demanded by these groups.

According to the agreed timetable, the communiqué points out, in the first weeks of October the preliminary staking out work was carried out so that the actual road work could now begin.

This transformation, with a budget of 1.6 million euros, should be completed during the first quarter of next year or early in the second, says the City Council, so “we hope all the work will be finished before Easter and in time for the start of the next tourist season,” explained the Deputy Mayor of Economy, Vicent Roselló in the public presentation of this schedule of work last September, says the note.
