Renting a shared room in Ibiza: Tenant warned of potential robbery

Staying in a small bed in a room with two other people in ses Figueretes costs 69 euros per night

A “women only” room shared with up to two other people, where you have to bring your towel and where the hostess herself warns that you have to lock your suitcases and wear earplugs. This is the peculiar advertisement of an illegal tourist rental in Ibiza that is promoted on the Airbnb platform.

It is a shared room (in one of the photographs you can see up to three single beds in the same room) in an apartment in ses Figueretes in which to stay costs 69 euros per nightas detailed in the breakdown of the rate: €44 per night to which must be added €15 cleaning fee and another €10 commission for the platform. The hostess has three different ads on the platform, one for each of the three beds in the room she is offering and that, in the case of being all occupied, would mean an income of 177 euros per night (44 euros for the overnight stay plus 15 euros for the cleaning fee for each of them).

“There is no privacy”

“No privacy,” hostess warns in adthis is corroborated by some of the people who have stayed in the room and who explain that the bathroom had no door. “There is no towel service, you have to bring your own personal towel,” comments the advertiser who, however, a little further on warns her potential clients that the luggage they bring should be “essential”.

“I am not responsible for valuables. If you bring a wheeled suitcase I recommend you bring your own padlock so you feel more secure.”, he continues in the ad, in which he insists, despite the fact that he is staying on a tourist rental platform, that “it is not a hotel”: “My house is for women who want a shower and a bed”. “I only accept women who want a shower and sleep, who are not looking for luxuries,” he insists.

The hostess repeatedly insists that “there is no privacy” in the room. She also warns of having to “climb stairs” and advises them to “bring noise-cancelling earplugs.”. In case anyone was hoping to save money on food by staying in an apartment, forget about it. The 69 euros a night that it costs to sleep in a small bed in a room with strangers in this apartment does not entitle you to prepare your own food: “The kitchen is closed”. However, the hostess does offer a respite: “You can use the fridge to store or refrigerate all ready-made food from the supermarket. Only products to take away.

“You should bring noise-cancelling earplugs.”

The shared room has, like any hotel, a maximum arrival time (three o’clock in the afternoon) and departure time (ten o’clock in the morning). If a guest wishes to check in after 3:00 p.m., he/she will have to pay a supplement of ten euros for each hour late arrival.

In case the conditions were not clear, the hostess repeats at the end the basic rules of the accommodation: “No privacy, no lockers, no lockers, no lockers, no towel service, i am not responsible for valuables, you have to climb stairs, you should bring earplugs, it is advisable to bring little luggage with its respective lock”.
