Glass containers and posidonia to accommodate dogs in Natura Parc

The igloos are used as shelters and the posidonia as bedding in the animal protection centre, in an initiative of the Sant Josep Town Council and Herbusa

The Sant Josep Town Council and the waste collection service concessionaire, Herbusa, have launched a “sustainable initiative for animal welfare” at the Natura Parc animal protection centre. It consists of reusing the glass collection igloos as kennels and the posidonia as insulation to accommodate the centre’s dogs.

“With this initiative we meet two objectives, as is the continued pursuit of animal welfare in the facilities of Natura Parc, as well as the promotion of sustainable economy through the reuse of municipal materials for a positive purpose,” explains the councilor, Environment, Felicia Bocú.

The igloos, originally green glass containers for recycling, will now serve as shelters and recreational areas for animals during their leisure time at Natura Parc. “This initiative not only responds to the need to provide comfortable and safe spaces for the animals, but also addresses the importance of reuse and waste reduction in the municipality”, emphasize from the City Council.

Two loads of posidonia

The second part of the donation includes two full truckloads of posidonia, collected from the coasts of the municipality. Posidonia, known for its traditional use as an insulator, will be used as natural bedding for the animals to rest on. “This approach not only provides a comfortable environment for the animals, but also aligns with sustainable and environmentally friendly practices,” the note adds.

The contract with the company Herbusa and the Decree on the conservation of oceanic posidonia on the islands have been key to obtaining both the igloos and the posidonia for the benefit of the animals.

“We thank Herbusa for their contribution and commitment to sustainability. This collaboration demonstrates how, working together, we can achieve a lasting positive impact on our environment and on the quality of life of the animals in the municipality,” adds Bocú.
