After seven months of sacrifice, the 19 graduates of the 43rd promotion of the training course for a position to be an officer of the Policía Local on Ibiza and Formentera, joyfully received the diplomas on Wednesday that certify their capacity as part of the body from this point forward, in a ceremony that took place at the Ibizan headquarters of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB)

The course, with both practical and theoretical aspects, was completed between April and November. Of the 19 officers who successfully completed the training, twelve also managed to obtain a position as civil servants. Four of the new Policía Local officers on staff will work in the Policía Local of Santa Eulària, three will patrol in Formentera, three others will serve in Vila and two in Santa Eulària. On the other hand, a student -one of the two Pitiusas women in the training- had the misfortune of being injured during the course and has not been able to complete one of the modules.

Although the course was initially designed for the awarding of interim vacancies, some students who had previously passed the competitive examinations, but had been left behind, finally joined the course. Several others achieved an even more difficult accomplishment: passing the competitive examination while taking the demanding training, explained Paco Adell, head of the Escola Balear d’Administració Pública (EBAP) in Ibiza.

A success that “is the sum of small efforts repeated day after day,” as Pedro Antonio González the first student of the promotion of municipal agents, wanted to highlight during the ceremony. A phrase that, together with the statement expressed by González when he declared “more than colleagues, I take friends with me”, could be the leitmotiv of the event. The speakers highlighted the sacrifice involved in following these courses on the part of the students, as well as the importance of the agents’ families and their invaluable support. “We want to thank the people who have suffered the most this course – more than anyone else! They are our families,” González pointed out during the acknowledgements.

Policía Local officers thank their families

In this sense, the new Policía Local officer with assigned place María del Carmen Agudo told this newspaper that “there are many hours of study to do that you can’t dedicate to your family”. Agudo attended her promotion with her daughter and knows well what it means to have the support of those close to her. “It means helping to pick up the children, making their meals, staying with them…. Everything. Of course, without the families, we couldn’t have done this,” she acknowledged.
