Salvamento Marรญtimo has published on its social networks a video recorded from the ‘Salvamar Acrux’ showing the moment in which this vessel goes to extinguish the flames that devour the ‘Aria SF’, the luxury yacht of 45 meters in length set on fire on the beach of Cala Saona, in Formentera, last summer.
The spectacular fire of the boat occurred the afternoon of August 11. The fire consumed it completely and turned the ‘Aria SF’ into a smoking skeleton. The hull was moved to the coast of Santa Eulร ria. With embers still active, it ended up sinking off Cap Martinet after approaching the coast, with the consequent detachment of charred remains and fuel.
The management of the emergency was criticized by the neighbors, the Santa Eulร ria City Council and the Consell de Ibiza, and led to the public appearance in Ibiza of the Insular Director, to defend the decisions that had been carried out.
The ‘Aria SF’ spent more than three months (113 days) submerged before being recovered by a pontoon brought from Cyprus and hired by the shipowner. Although the owner had long since submitted the refloating plan to the Harbour Master’s Office and the latter had accepted it, logistics and bad weather delayed the recovery. Finally, the ship was moved to the port of Vinaroz for scrapping.
