The neighborhood association Jesús en Transició, in collaboration with the City Council of Santa Eulària, organized the II Bicicletada on Sunday through the northern part of the town.
Jesús en Transició demands change
It is a popular and familiar cycling route open to the participation of the neighborhood. The objective is to promote the use of bicycles and other non-motorized means of transportation, while increasing the visibility of “the lack of safety that the current configuration of the urban and suburban area imposes on users”. In this sense, Jesús en Transició intends to make people aware that alternative mobility is possible. Therefore, once again, they are demanding that the Consell and the City Council of Santa Eulària create a network of safe roads for non-motorized mobility.
As explained in a statement by Jesús en Transició, there are currently about 3,000 people registered in Jesús, to which seasonal residents must also be added. In terms of mobility, they highlighted that infrastructures have been built to facilitate vehicle traffic, but “public transport has not been improved, nor has there been a commitment to facilitate the use of bicycles”. “The results are that cars occupy practically all public space and that Jesús has been filled with barriers that make it difficult to get around by other means.”
