Two men died this weekend within hours of each other in the waters off Ibiza and Formentera. The first, a 72-year-old man, died when he suffered a heart attack while trying to untie the anchor of his sailboat in Formentera, and the second was found dead early this morning floating in Cala Llonga.
In this second case it was an auxiliary boat of a vessel that located a body floating in the waters of Cala Llonga, about 300 meters from the coastbefore ten o’clock in the morning. The crew of the boat moved the body to the beach huts on the right side of the beach, where they were seen by the lifeguard of a nearby hotel, who came to see if he could revive the victim, a man in his fifties, as confirmed by the City Council of Santa Eulària.
From that moment on, 061, Guardia Civil and Local Police of Santa Eulària were alerted. The lifeguards serving on the beach, who were just joining their work at the time, also tried to help, but could do nothing for the man’s life.
The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigation to find out what happened and who the man is.
Dead in Formentera
On the other hand, a 72-year-old man died Saturday from drowning on Formentera’s Llevant beach while he was diving with his sailboat, according to sources from the island’s Consell.
The deceased suffered a cardiac crisis while underwater, after submerging for the purpose of unclogging the boat’s anchor, which had apparently become blocked.
