British man sentenced to nearly five years for selling drugs at Ibiza ‘openings’

The defendant, a British national, had bags of cocaine, ketamine and MDMA hidden in his sock

The prosecution is asking for nearly five years in prison (four years and nine months) for a man accused of a crime against public health. The pre-trial hearing for the facts, which occurred in the 2019 season, is held next Tuesday at a quarter to ten in the morning at the Provincial Court, in Palma.

The accused, a man with a British passport, was arrested in the early hours of May 21 five years ago, when agents of the Local Police of Sant Josep surprised him for several drugs hidden in a sock. The arrest coincides with the weekend of the 2019 disco openings, which were held in mid-May.

The man was about to enter a discotheque in the municipality of Sant Josep when he was subjected to a routine control. In this, the policemen found him eleven small bags of 6.147 grams of cocaine of a purity of of 79.5%, another twelve bags containing 6.632 grams of pure ketamine at 80.5%, and 25 pills of MDMA (ecstasy) weighing a total of 13.44 grams and whose purity, after testing, was found to be 39.8%. The intention of the Briton was to use all these substances “for sale inside the discotheque”, according to the indictment.

On the market, all these sachets and tablets would have reached an approximate price of 942.54 euros on the illicit market. At the time of the arrest, the agents also found 215 euros and ten pounds sterling “from the sale of these substances to third parties”.

The man, who had no criminal record, remained in the Ibiza penitentiary center from his arrest on May 21 until June 13. In addition to the prison sentence, the Prosecutor’s Office is requesting a fine of 2,000 euros for the accused. In case he does not pay it, he will be deprived of liberty for twenty days.
