Aythami Santana Fernández, known as Tamito, is a 31-year-old professional make-up artist who has become a finalist in ‘Make Up Star’, a RTVE contest presented by Pilar Rubio to discover new talent in the industry. The media Canarias 7 reports that the young man, from Gran Canaria, is capable of doing “any style of make-up”, although he specialises in the fields of beauty and fashion.
According to this media outlet, Fernandez her passion for the world of make-up came from the shows. At the age of 17, the young man worked at night to be able to pay for his studies in hairdressing. “Having to do make-up, I was expanding my knowledge and I became interested in this world”, he says in an interview with Canarias 7.
In the interview he also says that his working life has not been a bed of roses: “Unfortunately in the Canary Islands I had difficulty finding work, here I got a job or two, but as I was not qualified they didn’t open many doors for me”. “In 2015, the Canarian raised his wings to Ibiza where he was given the opportunity to work in the best beach clubs on the island and faced the challenge of doing the makeup and hair of DJ David Guetta,” says the Canary Islander. “It was quite interesting, I thought that since he was a man, you put a little bit of foundation and do his hair, but he’s a sweetheart and it’s very cool to work with international celebrities,” admits Fernández. After working with the famous DJ, the makeup artist returned to his homeland of Gran Canaria where he was able to grow professionally. “I think no one is a prophet in his own land, but I arrived in 2015 from Ibiza and they opened the doors for me here, on my island, where I am quite happy and grateful,” he confesses.
