The housing problem on Ibiza is growing in epic proportions. The exorbitant prices asked for a simple bed or a sofa are accompanied by settlements in practically the whole insular territory. Nothing is spared. Not even the World Heritage Site; for several months, under the walls in es Soto there are at least three illegal makeshift dwellings where several people live.
From the ground it is difficult to locate these makeshift dwellings which is very difficult area to access. They are only a few meters from the sea. One of these facilities is protected by several white sheets. A few meters further up, another one can be seen. Its inhabitants have used a wooden fence, like those used by the City Council for example in the Christmas facilities, to protect the entrance.
The third makeshift dwelling is located closer to the wall, under the access tunnel to the Plaza de España from es Soto. In this case, its tenants have used various plastics of different sizes and colors to create a sort of roof to protect them from the inclement weather. And from the gaze of onlookers. From the ground you have to descend several meters to locate the tent. And in this case, the cliff is no more than three meters away.
There are at least three very precarious makeshift dwellings that are visible from the sea, but not from land
It is from the sea that they are most visible. Especially from the deck of any of the boats that cover the regular transport line between Ibiza and Formentera. Although it is necessary to pay attention, the colors of the materials used stand out on the green of the vegetation.
