‘Karlotta’ squall sets Ibiza and Formentera on alert for two days

The fronts associated with the high-impact Atlantic squall named ‘Karlotta’ have already reached the Peninsula and will spread in the form of wind and rough seas over the Balearic Islands this Friday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

This episode of intense wind and sea storm will last until Saturday.

Yellow alert in Ibiza and Formentera

In Ibiza and Formentera, the Aemet has activated the yellow risk for wind and coastal phenomena. It is expected southwest wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

The alert for rough seas will remain active from 6 a.m. Friday until midnight Saturday, with wind from the southwest and intervals of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour (force 7) and waves up to three meters, with special incidence on coasts and promenades oriented to the southwest, says the Aemet.

The baleària shipping company has announced on its social networks the cancellation of several scheduled maritime routes for tomorrow due to the storm.

Also, by Friday light showers are expected which may be accompanied by stormswith a 100% chance of precipitation from midnight to 12 noon; 60% from noon to 6 p.m.; and 95% until midnight.

Temperatures forecast for this Friday will be 12 and 17 degrees.

Saturday

A post-frontal situation is expected on Saturday, ending the conditions that have led to this special advisory. Although the precipitation will gradually decrease in intensity and will tend to subside, still expected in the islands.

In the Pitiusas there will be skies with clear skies and clouds and minimum and maximum of 9 and 18 degrees.

Temperatures will drop across the board with the passage of the front, resulting in a significant drop in the snow level, which will be located at 1,000 meters.

Sunday

Sunday will be alternating clear and cloudy in Ibiza and Formentera, with a 50% chance of precipitation in the afternoon. Minimum and maximum temperatures of 8 and 16 degrees.
