International Women’s Day 2022 on Ibiza and Formentera: activities planned to achieve “real equality”.

The Pitiusas Islands will celebrate different events during the whole month of March for International Women's Day 2022.

International Women’s Day 2022 will be celebrated on the 8th of March. In a press release, the Ibiza City Council has announced the extensive programme of cultural, sporting and protest activities scheduled to begin on the 5th of March and continue until the 31st.

Montse García, the Vila Town Councillor for Equality, stressed that the programme “is designed to reach as many people as possible”. “What we want is to give visibility to the need for all sectors of society and the population in general to be aware that obstacles must continue to be overcome in order to achieve real equality. From small gestures to collective projects can help to continue working. All these facts will also imply the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals in their fifth point, in which gender equality is not only a human right, but also one of the essential foundations to build a peaceful and sustainable world“, explained the councillor.

Under this slogan the Consell de Formentera has presented the program of events to be held on the island throughout the month of March to mark International Women’s Day. The president of the island government, Ana Juan, stressed that this “perspective of the future is fundamental to building a future society with real equality through education”.

Juan also explained that the Consell “is developing its first internal equality plan, to ensure that as an institution it is not only an objective and ideal, but a reality for all our staff and their environment.” “The administration has to be the mirror of a society built on gender equality,” added the president. Juan also added that in the coming months the council will incorporate “an agent for reconciliation and co-responsibility to study new ways and measures to facilitate and improve the quality of family reconciliation for Formentera’s citizens, so that the burden of family care does not limit anyone’s professional and professional development”.
