The Sant Antoni lifeguard and rescue service this morning rescued a loggerhead turtle that was sighted near Punta Galera, according to a note from the Sant Antoni Town Hall.
A person has alerted 112 and this has activated the protocol. The rescue boat, based in Cala Salada, has been able to recover the turtle, that was injured with a fishing net hooked to it in the left flipper which prevented its proper mobility.
The animal was taken to Caló des Moro where it was attended by a veterinarian from COFIB (Centro de Recuperación de Fauna de las Islas Baleares) and later evacuated to a veterinary clinic.
Once examined, probably will be transferred tomorrow to Palma Aquarium, in Mallorca, for its recovery.
