Ibiza and Formentera celebrate Literanit with literature and cinema

On 30 September, Can Ventosa will host an event with dramatised readings of film texts and poems recited by the actresses Txaro Kandler, Àngels Martínez and Paula Ramos

For the second consecutive year, the Pitiusas Islands are joining the Literanit reading promotion festival, which will be held on 30 September, under the slogan ‘Literature and cinema. Shared territories’. The Institució Francesc de Borja Moll, promoter of the initiative, has programmed for this fifth edition some forty events in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, which is participating for the first time.

Specifically, in Ibiza, the main activity will take place in the following places next Saturday at 7 p.m. in Can Ventosa. It will consist of dramatized readings of cinematographic texts and poems to be performed by the actresses Txaro Kandler, Àngels Martínez and Paula Ramos. This event is open to all audiences and does not require prior reservation. Also, on the occasion of Literanit, book tables on cinema will be installed in the libraries of Can Ventosa, Cas Serres, ses Figueretes, Sant Josep, Sant Jordi and Formentera.

On the other hand, in the Pitiusa Menor on September 30 will talk about “the mythified Formentera of movies and books”in a round table with the participation of Manolo de Oya, Pilar Aldea, Jordi Riera and Neus Costa. The moderator will be María Teresa Ferrer. The appointment will be at 8 pm at the Centre Antoni Tur Gabrielet, in Sant Franscesc Xavier. The event is organized, in this case, the Obra Cultural Balear de Formenterawhich, in parallel, this same week has programmed the presentation of two books. They are ‘Umbilical’, by Damià Rotger Miróand of ‘Blue Bar’, by Josep Maria Rossell. The first will be presented by the author and Maria Teresa Ferrer on Thursday, September 28, at 8 pm at the Centre Antoni Tur Gabrielet. The event will have the musical accompaniment of Víctor Leiva. Damià Rotger and Manolo Oya will be in charge of talking about ‘Blue Bar’ on Friday, September 29, at 7.30 p.m. at the Marià Villangómez library.

News in Literanit

The Nit de la Literatura of the Institució Francesc de Borja Moll counts every year with the support of various institutions, among which are the two councils of the Pitiusas and the city councils of Ibiza and Sant Josep. Also collaborating are the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes of the Generalitat de Catalunya; the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, which depends on the Govern; the Palma City Council and the Consell de Mallorca.

Literanit was born on the island in 2019 with the main objective of promoting reading and revitalizing the cultural circuit of the Balearic Islands. Since then it has been growing to spread throughout the rest of the community, in addition to Catalonia and Valencian lands. Ibiza and Formentera have been participating since 2022.

This is the first edition in which the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), the Centre Associat de la UNED Illes Balears, the Public Library Can Sales de Mallorca, the Teatre de Barra and the Teatre Principal de Palma join the initiative. It will be precisely in this city, in Can Balaguer, where the main event will take place, which will be presented by Aina Jagla. The filmmaker Joan Porcel will read the proclamation and the writer Maria de la Pau Janer, the manifesto for reading. There will also be a concert by the Mallorcan band Lost in Translation.

The complete program of the festival includese screenings, talks, colloquiums, concerts, theater and book exhibitions and other spaces in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera, Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

Each year Literanit is dedicated to a theme, on this occasion the festival will become an annual eventa space to reflect on the intersections between cinema and literature throughout history and to discuss contemporary creations that explore these two fields.
