The Consell Sectorial de Movilidad, formed by representatives of the Department of Transport of the Consell de Ibiza, the five councils of the island and the sector, has agreed on an update of the cab service fares. The planned increase from May 1 will be 7.16%, as agreed by the insular institution and all the councils of the island, as advanced by this newspaper.
The second vice president and councilor of Transport of the Consell de Ibiza, Javier Torres, said in a statement that during the meeting held this Monday, convened in an extraordinary way, the technical and economic report of the Department of Transport has been valued, as well as the proposal presented by the Independent Federation of Taxi Drivers of the Balearic Islands (Fitib). The increase in cab prices is pending final approval by the Consell Executiu
To update the fares, the calculation methodology of the economic study model for the revision of fares of the Balearic Government provided to the Consell Balear de Transportes Terrestres has been taken as a reference, so as to have a defined structure as a reference.
Torres has recalled that the Consell Executiu approved last July 7 the update of the single rate of application (urban and intercity routes) of the cab service on the island of Ibiza. As requested by the Independent Federation of Taxis of the Balearic Islands (FITIB) before the health crisis caused by the coronavirus, prices were increased by 3.41%. As it was stated then, when this increase was approved, it was already announced that another one would be agreed later to face the increase in fuel prices and inflation.
Cab insular regulation
On the other hand, the Department of Transport has also requested information from the five city councils related to the seasonal cab shift schedules in order to be able to plan appointments at the Santa Gertrudis MOT station and also the public holidays of the year have been defined to take advantage of the reprogramming of the taximeter for the new fares and register everything at the same time.
Finally, during this Monday’s meeting of the Consell Sectorial de Movilidad has been discussed the first draft of the Insular regulation of the cab. “This proposal is based on the cab loading and unloading order, which has already led to improvements in the sector. It is a living document, open, where we want to collect all possible contributions to move towards a consensual and useful regulation to improve the cab service,” explained the second vice president and Conseller of Transport of the Consell.
