Ibiza approves 3.3 million euros in a new bike-sharing program

The Ibiza Town Hall allocates 95,000 euros for scholarships for higher education and vocational training students and for scholarships for the best records

The project is financed with European Next Generation funds and has an estimated investment of 3.3 million euros for the service provision period of three years, extendable to two more years.

“The objective is to improve mobility within the city by favoring a more sustainable transport system, reducing the number of motorized vehicles in the downtown area of the municipality, recovering spaces degraded by the aggressive presence of the automobile and promoting bicycle-public transport intermodality,” as explained by the City Council.

Grants for students

On the other hand, the Local Government Board has definitively approved 95,000 euros in grants for higher education students and to prizes for the best records academics of baccalaureate and middle grade training cycles in the municipality of Ibiza for the course 2022/2023.

Of this item, 80,000 euros correspond to economic scholarships derived from tuition, travel and materials, among others and 15,000 euros from the awards for the best academic records of high school and middle grade training cycles of the municipality of Ibiza for the course 2022/2023.

As for the scholarships for students of higher education and vocational training, the studies may be taken in Ibiza or outside the island. The basic requirements are to be a resident in the municipality of Ibiza, not to be older than 30 years and to be studying in the 2022/2023 course.

“From the Department of Youth the need for this financial aid is positively valued because of the expenses involved in the studies, while one of the objectives of the Department of Youth is fulfilled to promote training among young people and thus contribute to make students can enrich their cultural level and their educational curriculum,” according to the note.

For all these reasons, it is proposed to approve the call for the year 2023 of the grants for students of higher education.

The purpose of these grants is to alleviate the economic expenses derived from tuition, travel and materials, among others, borne by students and families.

For students of higher education, official degrees taken in centers throughout Spain and valid throughout the Spanish State, are subject to aid for on-site and off-site studies in Ibiza or outside the island; undergraduate university studies; higher artistic education (higher degree) and training cycles of higher education.

The distance learning and blended learning will always be considered as having been taken in Ibiza.

In relation to the call for prizes and scholarships for the best records, the prize consists of 500 euros for each award winner. A maximum of thirty prizes will be awarded: fifteen prizes for high school students and fifteen prizes for students of intermediate training cycle.

“The Youth Council grants these awards to value the excellence, effort and academic performance of students, to give official recognition to the merits of students who demonstrate a special preparation in their studies, and to encourage students to pursue higher education,” explains the City Council….

Both calls will be effective at the end of this school year in Juneat the time when the bases will be published in the BOIB and the period of presentation will be opened of the documentation.

Social Welfare Grants

The Local Government Board has also given final approval for the 291.000 euros for subsidies for a total of 11 social entities of Ibizathis year, these grants have been increased by 50,000 euros with the intention of strengthening the work done by these associations that provide services to people who need it most.

The item will be distributed among the Red Cross, Caritas, Yacht Club, the Pitiusa Association of Aid to Cancer Sufferers (APAAC), the Multiple Sclerosis Association, the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients of Ibiza and Formentera, the Club de Jubilados y Pensionistas del Mar de Ibiza y Formentera, the Plataforma Sociosanitaria, the Asociación de madres y padres de personas con discapacidad de las Islas Baleares (AMADIBA), APNEEF and the Asociación de padres de niños y adolescentes discapacitados de Ibiza y Formentera (ASPANADIF).

New Local Police cars

The contract for the supply of two patrol cars with detainee kit for the Ibiza Local Police has also been approved, the City Council explains. The budget is 185,000 euros for four years.

The objective is to progressively renew the vehicle fleet, and to replace vehicles that are more than eight years old.
