All eyes on Ibiza airport road after flooding nine days ago

The orange weather alert in Ibiza and Formentera this Thursday has put all emergency teams on standby. The Ibiza and Formentera Fire Brigades, Civil Protection groups, Ibanat and other agencies have reinforced their teams and increased surveillance to respond to any incidents that may arise.

According to the Balearic Government, all efforts are focused on the EI-800 road, the main access route to Ibiza Airport, which was severely affected by flooding nine days ago. The road was closed for several days, disrupting communications, and around three million litres of water had to be pumped out.

Since 5 a.m. this morning, a technical team from the road works concession company has been working in coordination with the Directorate General for Emergencies and the Ibiza Island Council to ensure safety at this critical point. The operation includes ten workers, a skid steer loader, two trucks, a hydraulic pump truck and a signalling van. If necessary, traffic diversions will be put in place to prevent incidents.
