Over half of Ibiza’s 14,694 ‘jets’ in 2023 landed between June and August

In 2023, Ibiza Airport witnessed a significant concentration of private jet activity during its peak tourist months, with over half of the year’s private flights occurring between June and August. Official figures reveal that of the 14,694 private jet operations recorded, 8,220 took place in the summer, averaging 89.3 movements daily. July stood out as the busiest month, with 3,307 private jet movements, meaning nearly a third of all aircraft using the runway were private jets. The trend reflects a surge in private jet travel post-2020, attributed to the pandemic’s impact on travel preferences towards avoiding crowds and airport waits. The seasonal pattern is stark, with 83.3% of the year’s private flights occurring from May to October, contrasting sharply with the quieter winter months, which saw only 16.7% of the activity. Overall, the airport’s total operations slightly decreased from the previous year, with 79,055 movements across all flight types, underscoring the strong seasonal fluctuations in Ibiza’s aviation and tourism sectors.
